“I get asked the question “What is Muay Thai?” quite often so let’s use this as the topic of our website’s first ever blog post. We’ll discuss what is Muay Thai and how it relates to Cardio Kickboxing and how we can adapt during this time to Virtual Training Sessions.” What is Muay Thai/Cardio Kickboxing? Muay Thai, martial arts originates from Thailand and has been around for hundreds years. In the early 17th century, it was used by soldiers during time of war. During the 19th Century is when it was developed into something more, by combining martial arts and western style boxing. Turning it into more of a fitness and recreational sport, that was still used for self-defense. In the early 1960’s, people in the United States began to practice Muay Thai/kickboxing and by 1974 it began to gain in popularity. From then on, Muay Thai and kickboxing began to contribute to the growth and importance of mixed martial arts. Today it is practiced by both, those who wish to train to defend themselves and those who want a full-body workout. Regardless, you get both self-defense training and a great workout. Why is Muay Thai/Cardio Kickboxing such a great workout? Because Muay Thai is known as ‘The Art of Eight Limbs’, meaning we are training with hands, elbows, knees, and feet. When training with all eight limbs, we are creating movement with our entire body, making it the best, well rounded, and most enjoyable cardio workout around. Because these movements have been used for many years, the movements involved have been effectively practiced and perfected for our benefit. Why Cardio Kickboxing Workouts?
